About Crochet Pattern Generator.
Crochet Pattern Generator is a free collection of browser-based chart makers for people who want a clear graph before they pick up a hook — without accounts, watermarks, or uploading your work to a server.
Why this site exists
A good crochet project often starts with a grid: which stitch is which color, where the mesh opens, and how a motif reads when it is worked row by row. Paper graph paper still works, but resizing, recoloring, counting stitches, and printing a clean legend is slow. Online tools help — yet many push sign-ups, cloud storage, or export limits before you can keep a simple chart.
We built crochetpatterngenerator.net so you can open a page, draw or convert a design, check counts, and download a PNG or PDF. The focus is practical chart making for colorwork, photo-based graphs, filet mesh, and tapestry color runs — not a social network, marketplace, or full written pattern library.
Every tool on this site is free to use for personal projects. There is no subscription wall on drawing, templates, local saving, or standard downloads. If a feature is not available yet, we do not pretend it is; the help text and FAQ on each tool page describe the real scope.
What you can make here
The homepage colorwork graph maker covers classic single-crochet colorwork charts. Dedicated pages handle photo to crochet pattern conversion, filet open/filled mesh, and tapestry flat-or-round instructions. Pick the tool that matches the stitch structure you will actually crochet.
Colorwork graph maker
Draw stitch-by-stitch color charts on a grid, start from templates, count colors, and download PNG or multi-page PDF charts for single crochet colorwork.
Photo to crochet pattern
Crop a picture, set stitch width and yarn colors, convert it into an editable graph in your browser, then tidy stitches before you print.
Filet crochet generator
Build open and filled mesh charts, turn short names into filet lettering, and export foundation-chain math with row-by-row open/filled notes.
Tapestry pattern maker
Design multi-color tapestry graphs for flat rows or continuous rounds, with color-run instructions, direction arrows, and printable charts.
How the tools work
Charts are edited in your browser. Color grids, photo sampling, filet mesh toggles, and tapestry color-run text are calculated on your device. When you download a PNG or PDF, the file is generated locally from the chart you see on screen.
Your latest draft for each tool can save automatically in this browser using on-device storage (IndexedDB). That draft does not sync across phones and computers. Clearing site data, using private browsing, or switching devices can remove it. Downloads are the durable copy for printing or archiving; exported files cannot be re-imported into the editors today.
- No account required. You can start drawing without creating a login.
- No pattern upload vault. We do not host a cloud library of your charts.
- Honest product scope. Color squares mean single crochet colorwork unless a tool says otherwise. Filet and tapestry pages use their own mesh and carry rules. These makers do not output full garment grading, amigurumi shaping, or stitch- symbol diagrams for every stitch type.
- Print-minded exports. PDFs include legends, counts, and numbered chart pages so large designs stay readable at a desk or on the sofa.
Who it is for
Hobby crocheters designing blankets, bags, wall hangings, and panels; teachers sketching classroom samples; makers converting a logo or pet photo into a workable color count; and filet or tapestry crocheters who want mesh maps and color-run notes without buying desktop software.
If you need a commercial pattern writing suite, multi-user team storage, or automatic yarn brand substitution, this site is intentionally smaller. It aims to be the quick, private chart step between an idea and the yarn on your hook.
What this is not
Crochet Pattern Generator is not a substitute for checking gauge, choosing fiber, planning borders, or reading safety notes for toys. Charts show structure and color placement; you still decide hook size, yarn weight, tension, and finishing. Photo conversion produces a flat color graph, not a 3D amigurumi pattern. Filet lettering is a mesh guide, not a guarantee that every alphabet style will look identical in every yarn.
We also do not claim affiliation with yarn brands, magazine publishers, or other charting products. Original templates on the site are provided as starting points for your own projects. Respect copyright on any photo, logo, or motif you import: only use material you own or have permission to adapt.
Privacy-first charting
Photos you convert and graphs you draw are processed in the browser session. We do not operate a backend that stores your stitch maps for later login. Custom events used for optional local integration stay on the page and are not sent as third-party analytics beacons. For full details on data practices, read the Privacy Policy. Site rules for using the tools are in the Terms of Use.
